YouTube Link Viewer
Deconstruct any YouTube URL to extract parameters, clean tracking data, and generate standard canonical links.
YouTube URL Formats Explained
YouTube employs various URL structures depending on how and where you access a video. You might see a standard watch URL (youtube.com/watch), a shortened sharing URL (youtu.be), a Shorts URL, or an embed URL. While these look different, they all contain core identifying information—most importantly, the 11-character Video ID.
Our Link Viewer parses any provided YouTube link, normalizes it, and extracts the raw data points. It strips away unnecessary tracking parameters and allows you to generate clean, canonical links for sharing or embedding.
Privacy and No-Cookie Embeds
If you embed YouTube videos on your website, you may need to comply with privacy regulations like GDPR. Standard YouTube embeds set tracking cookies in the user's browser as soon as the page loads.
To solve this, our tool generates a "No Cookie Embed" URL (youtube-nocookie.com). Using this URL in your iframe ensures that YouTube does not store information about visitors on your web page unless they actually click play on the video.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I link to a specific time in a video?
You can add a timestamp parameter to the end of a YouTube URL. For a standard URL, append &t=60s (for 60 seconds). For a shortened youtu.be link, append ?t=60s. Our tool detects these timestamps if they are present in the URL you analyze.
How do I get a video's thumbnail image?
YouTube automatically generates several thumbnail images for every video and hosts them on their image servers. Our tool generates direct links to the highest resolution (maxresdefault.jpg) and high quality (hqdefault.jpg) versions of these thumbnails based on the extracted Video ID.
What is a Playlist ID?
A Playlist ID (usually starting with 'PL' or 'RD') identifies a collection of videos. When you watch a video as part of a playlist, the URL includes &list=[PlaylistID]. This tells the YouTube player which video to play next automatically.
